Research of existing soap trailers.

It is hard to create a trailer for a new soap opera, as the target audiences of soaps are already familiar with the characters and settings. Therefore it seems that when existing soap operas are advertised for new characters or story lines they only seem to be based around the characters involved, as the audience already have knowledge on the soap not to much is revealed. It was interesting to look at a trailer for Eastenders where Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell are introduced through the trailer to the audience, as the use of shots, music, mice-en-scene and editing helps to show how the characters are going to affect the soap.

It is also interesting to see the different editing techniques used on the trailers. As the soap conventions themselves are used to promote realism the trailers almost contradict this.

Here are a few trailers, research from the soaps of
-          Eastenders
-          Coronation Street
-          Hollyoaks
